Sheriff reports cave rescue training exercise, large drug seizure in Green River

The sheriff said the county staged a technical rope-rescue exercise on a steep canyon location and a companion scenario at the Hunter Power Plant that included rope rescue, hazmat decontamination and multi-agency participation. He listed participating agencies as the Emery County Sheriff’s Office search-and-rescue team, Carbon County search-and-rescue, the Air National Guard, Army National Guard, the Hunter and Huntington power plants, the Utah Department of Public Safety and private volunteers.
Separately, the sheriff described a traffic stop that led deputies to seize “just over 1,200 pounds of marijuana” and a liquid THC concentrate. He emphasized the seized material was concentrated THC — a high-potency product he said is closer to 90–95% THC in recent production — and distinguished the seizure from personal-use marijuana. The sheriff credited deputies for recognizing behavioral cues during the traffic stop and said the vehicle had out-of-state plates.
The sheriff also noted lessons and community benefits from the joint training exercise and said responder teams practiced technical rigging and patient recovery using rope systems and hazmat procedures. Commissioners praised the multi-agency exercise and thanked county personnel for their work.
No criminal case details or suspect names were discussed at the meeting; the sheriff said the interdiction was an operational success.
