Coronado Unified recognizes district classified employees of the year

Coronado Unified School District presented its 2024 Classified Employees of the Year honors Wednesday, recognizing staff from school sites and the district office for work in libraries, health offices, campus security, custodial services and information systems.
The awards, introduced by Donna Trippi of the district’s human resources office, named Beth Lind as Silver Strand Elementary’s classified employee of the year; Cathy Wood as Village Elementary’s classified employee of the year; Cody Englehart as the classified employee of the year at Coronado Middle School; Kelly Englehart as the district office classified employee of the year and Linda Kirk as Coronado High School’s classified employee of the year and the district’s overall classified employee of the year. The district also recognized Rudy Alcantara, lead custodian at Coronado High School, who could not attend.
The recognitions highlighted work across multiple operational areas. Jenny Moore, principal of Silver Strand Elementary, said Beth Lind “ensures that the library is part of the enduring positive climate at Silver Strand” and described Lind’s role in running book fairs, read-alouds and coordinating with the school innovation lab. Brooke Filar, principal of Coronado Middle School, called Cody Englehart “a positive presence on CMS campus” who helps keep students and staff safe while building strong relationships. Dr. Megan Battle, senior director of learning, introduced Kelly Englehart and credited her with maintaining student information and other district data systems.
Board members and staff thanked all nominees and callers to the podium noted record participation in the district nomination process; the selection committee reviewed 48 nominations this year. No formal board action was required to present the recognitions.
The board paused briefly for remarks and applause for each recipient before continuing with the regular agenda. The district said the in-person recognition reflects the range of duties classified staff perform—from student support and health care to technology and custodial work.
The presentation concluded with the board expressing appreciation for classified employees’ daily work supporting students and operations across Coronado Unified.
