Holyoke City Councilors in a joint ordinance and charter rules committee meeting on April 16 voted unanimously to amend and approve an order to install a handicap sign to be issued in the name of Susanna Morales rather than the name originally filed, Anna Rodriguez.
The amendment was made after staff told the committee the Disabilities Commission recommended the driver99s name appear on the application. Jeff (city staff) said the applicant, Anna Rodriguez, is blind and her daughter would be driving; the commission asked that the application carry the daughter99s name so the placard matches the driver. Councilors moved, seconded and passed the amendment by roll call and then voted to approve the amended order.
The order had been filed by Councilor Ocasio. The committee recorded unanimous roll call votes on both motions. The amendment vote recorded Councilor Vagan, Councilor Jenny Rivera, Councilor Meg McGrath Smith and Councilor Israel Rivera voting yes. The subsequent motion to approve the handicap sign under Susanna Morales also passed unanimously on roll call with Councilor Linda Bacon, Councilor Jenny Rivera, Councilor Meg McGrath Smith and Councilor Israel Rivera recorded as voting yes.
The committee chair said the amendment would be forwarded as an amendment to the original order; committee minutes will reflect that the sign will be issued in Susanna (Susana) Morales99 name and that the Disabilities Commission approved the application pending that correction.
No additional conditions or funding were discussed. The committee moved on to other agenda items after the approval.
