Commissioners authorize county attorney to draft contract for sale of two sheriff SUVs to Walsenburg

The Custer County Board of Commissioners voted to authorize the county attorney to draft a contract for the sale of two surplus sheriff’s Dodge Durango SUVs to the town of Walsenburg.
Bill Canada, board chair, read the sheriff’s earlier report that the county purchased new pickup trucks on finance and that the sheriff had surplus Durangos available. The sheriff’s office said the town of Walsenburg offered to buy the two Durangos for $26,000 each, with proposed payments on Dec. 1, 2025 and Dec. 1, 2026.
Under the plan discussed at the meeting, the sheriff’s office will transfer three used four‑door Ram pickup trucks to the Road & Bridge department; the county indicated the current estimated value of those units would satisfy roughly one year of the finance payment on the new pickups. The board instructed the county attorney to prepare a sale agreement that aligns with those terms.
Commissioner motion language: "I make a motion that we have Dan Slater write up a contract for the sale of these 2 vehicles to the town of Walsenburg, contract following the proposed agreement." A motion to direct the attorney to draft the contract was seconded and carried on an aye vote by the board.
