The Regional Housing Authority hiring committee told the board it had advanced two finalists (referred to in interviews as Candidate A and Candidate B), recommended Candidate A as the stronger immediate fit and asked the board to permit the committee to finish the hiring process based on a board meet-and-greet.
"Our large takeaway is ... Candidate A felt like the better fit for where we're at at this moment," a hiring committee member said during a presentation to the full board.
The board scheduled a meet-and-greet open-house style session for both finalists on the 22nd at 5 p.m. in the annex meeting room so all board members can meet the finalists. Committee members said the session will be informal — intended for board members to ask questions and form impressions — and recommended that, after the meet-and-greet, the hiring committee be authorized to make the final hiring decision to avoid scheduling a special meeting.
Board members voted in favor of delegating final hiring authority to the committee. Committee members and city staff discussed salary and budget. The board considered a proposed pay range between roughly $60,000 and $77,000 and noted the current city/allocation shows $70,000 budgeted for the executive director position; board members said the authority has roughly four months of budgeted salary remaining in the fiscal year if the position remains unfilled.
City staff agreed to connect the committee with county HR staff (Zoe, as referenced in the meeting) for offer-letter and background-check procedures if a hire proceeds. Committee members said they will circulate the finalists’ materials to the full board before the scheduled meet-and-greet.
The decision to give the hiring committee authority was presented as a procedural delegation to expedite hiring; the board did not record a separate, subsequent vote to approve an offer at the meeting. Committee members said they will return to the board with a final hiring action or a recommendation to continue the search if neither finalist is acceptable.
