Committee approves $405,800 Metra elevator replacement; members warned of yearlong timeline and service disruption

The Kenosha Public Works Committee on April 14 approved a $405,800 contract to replace the Metro station elevator, and committee members discussed the project timeline and service impacts during the meeting.

The contract for project 25-1750, Metra elevator replacement, was awarded to RASK Construction Incorporated in the amount of $405,800. Committee members noted the contract term is 365 days. Staff said much of that period likely reflects equipment lead time rather than a full year of on‑site construction.

"There's lead time with the equipment purchase. I would not expect that it's 365 days of construction," said staff member Kader. "My guess is that it's gonna take some time to get the necessary equipment and construction will start much later down the road." The staff member said the contract is administered through transit and referred detailed schedule and operational questions to the transit commission.

A committee member said there will be some disruption of service at the Metro while the elevator is replaced and that the last‑reported plan was to bus riders to the next station during construction. Committee members were advised that the item would also appear before the transit commission next Monday for further consideration.

The committee approved the contract by a recorded motion and vote during the meeting; staff and committee members asked that transit be informed of local concerns and that a transit representative attend the commission meeting to address questions about service impacts and mitigation.

The city will proceed with contract execution and coordinate schedule and passenger‑service mitigation with the transit authority.
