Commissioners noted stylistic and procedural updates to reflect virtual meetings and current practices, and suggested creating a two-page abridged summary for onboarding new commissioners. Commissioner Emily highlighted the need to update references to in-person practices and to clarify where the handbook should be a living document versus a historical record.
Several commissioners supported approving the manual as drafted while pursuing a separate abridged summary. Commissioner Aaron said, “I personally think we should not put a bunch more energy into that. ... I would personally move to just approve it as it is.” Commissioners ultimately agreed to continue the discussion and to revisit the manual at the next meeting; staff will place the item on the next agenda for a formal vote.
No final approval or ordinance change was recorded at the April 15 meeting; the commission directed staff to circulate the draft for any final comments and to prepare the item for a vote at the next scheduled meeting. Staff also offered to support commissioners who volunteer to draft a condensed onboarding summary if the commission chooses to pursue that separately.
