Canfield council adopts ordinance authorizing street-improvement contract with MS Consultants

The Canfield City Council voted to dispense with the charter requirement for two readings and adopted an ordinance authorizing the city manager to enter into a professional-services agreement with MS Consultants Inc. for the 02/2025 street improvement project.

Council member Graham read the ordinance by title: “An ordinance authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with MS Consultants Inc. in the form attached hereto for professional services related to the 02/2025 street improvement project.” After the reading, council moved, seconded and recorded votes in favor to adopt the ordinance on first reading.

Members asked for clarification about which streets the project will include. A staff speaker and council members cited Taltman and Indian Lake as likely candidates and noted the work may tie to a new waterline, but staff told council they would provide a minimum list of streets for the next meeting.

During discussion a council member also raised a separate sewer-backup question relating to Brook Park; staff said property owners, not city infrastructure, appeared to be the cause in the incidents referenced and that any potential claim or lawsuit had not been confirmed in the meeting record.

The ordinance adoption was presented and approved during the meeting; council did not attach additional funds or implementation dates in the ordinance text read aloud. Council asked staff for more detailed street and schedule information at a future meeting.
