Council approves $129,221 CCTV installation at City Hall for security and evidence retention

The City Council approved a contract to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and access control upgrades at City Hall, including interior cameras for the council chambers and exterior coverage of the parking lot.
Chief Tony Cortina told the council the upgrades would cover City Hall exteriors and interior spaces where blind spots exist and that live feeds will be available to dispatch and the watch commander. The proposed system would record and retain video for roughly 30 days, which staff said has already helped the department solve recent vandalism and thefts.
Staff identified funding from the city’s capital projects fund (Fund 160) and reported that about $129,221 is available for the work. Council approved the contract 5-0. Staff said the project will include roughly 25 cameras and some maintenance of existing devices, and that the police department will monitor live feeds. Councilmembers asked finance staff whether funding would threaten the city’s budget; staff confirmed sufficient capital reserves exist and that the project had been prioritized as part of the capital plan.
Chief Cortina described an instance in which recent CCTV footage helped identify and prosecute a suspect who vandalized a police motorcycle. The council asked staff to coordinate purchase and installation and to provide any additional scheduling or procurement details if needed.
