Public speaker urges Encinitas Environmental Commission to back AB 762 banning disposable e-cigarettes

Walker said the bill had recently cleared the Assembly Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials and moved to the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions. ‘‘This handout I gave you explains all about it,’’ she said, and urged commissioners and the city to send letters or public support and to use the bill’s website to submit comments.
Walker told the commission she supports the bill partly because of disposal problems at schools and in cities, saying that, ‘‘people throw away about 4 and a half e cigs every second,’’ and that schoolchildren surveyed ‘‘throw them in their trash or they throw them on the sidewalk.’’ She described disposable e-cigarettes as hazardous waste that lacks clear disposal guidance and said the bill is intended to address those concerns.
The presentation was delivered during the meeting’s oral communications time and no formal commission action on AB 762 was taken at the meeting.
