Corsicana ISD special programs staff on April 14 presented social‑emotional data gathered through the Alongside app and outlined a districtwide rollout of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts relationship‑based program.
Staff said the district partnered with Alongside as a 24/7 student support chat and character‑lesson app and served as a research partner for the vendor this school year. In fall baseline surveys at Collins, the middle school and the high school, staff reported that 31% of respondents said they did not have an adult at school with whom they could “be completely yourself,” and a quarter of students said they did not have an adult they could “count on to help you no matter what.” Staff characterized those findings as indicators that many students lack stable adult relationships and that early interventions are needed.
To address the needs, the district is expanding Capturing Kids' Hearts — an adults‑focused training and coaching program designed to build positive relationships and consistent classroom culture across campuses. Special programs staff said the program emphasizes a shared language and relational practices for all adults on campus, from teachers to custodians, and that the district will roll the training out across every campus, with additional traction visits and coaching for campuses that need more support.
Staff noted the program’s research base and described expected outcomes including reduced discipline referrals, improved attendance and higher academic achievement tied to stronger relationships and school climate. Staff also described planned parent engagement strategies and family events to align home and school connections, while acknowledging that direct parent participation can be variable.
The board did not take formal action on these information items; staff said a follow‑up survey will run before the end of the school year to measure program impact.
