Schools committee backs $500,000 Path Forward teacher‑training allocation and Literacy Academy expansion

Committee members said the Literacy Academy plans to expand to Brooklyn this fall and described the New York State Path Forward initiative, a collaboration among NYSED, SUNY and CUNY to reform teacher training. The committee recorded support for a request that the state allocate $500,000 to hire four dedicated NYSED staff to redesign teacher preparation under the Path Forward program.
The committee said it drafted a resolution in support of the funding request; the Schools committee lacked quorum at that meeting and will present the resolution to the full board for a vote.
