Southlake Youth Action Commission presents year of projects; members detail internships and community work

The Southlake Youth Action Commission (SCIAC) presented its annual report to City Council on April 15, outlining the group27s work and planned projects for the coming year.
SCIAC members described a range of activities they27ve organized or participated in, including three street cleanups on Shady Oaks, an internship day in which commissioners intern with city departments (police, fire, community services and the city manager27s office), and a public-art and parks tour to better understand the city27s art and parks resources. Members also said they took part in meetings about local elections, learning about election mechanics and voter engagement.
Commission staff liaison Melanca Lopez and student members said the commission is focused on serving as a youth voice for Southlake and building leadership skills among members. Council members praised the commission for its volunteer work and encouraged the students to continue participating in local government.
The presentation was followed by brief council remarks and a photo at the dais.
