Supervisor Feuer proposes housing inventory for Rent Board to track vacancies and rents

Supervisor Feuer introduced a proposal on Nov. 3 directing the Rent Board to create and maintain an accurate housing inventory and vacancy tracking system to support rent‑control enforcement, inspection and policy analysis.
Feuer said the city lacks an accurate picture of existing rental stock and that a maintained inventory would help the Rent Board monitor vacancies, identify units for emergency Good Samaritan use, detect possible bad‑faith rent increases intended to coerce tenants, and better administer the rent ordinance. The supervisor cited pandemic‑related changes in occupancy and remote work that increased rents and vacancy uncertainty.
Feuer thanked early cosponsors Supervisors Peskin and Ronan and advocacy partners who worked on the proposal. Several supervisors on the dais indicated they would be added as cosponsors.
