Board urges DRE to pursue 888 Post Street for navigation center; neighbors, nonprofits back plan

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on July 9 adopted a resolution urging the Department of Real Estate to pursue financially feasible options to lease or purchase 888 Post Street (the former House of Fans) for use as a navigation center or a multiuse service center serving homeless and formerly homeless individuals.

Supervisor Aaron Peskin sponsored the resolution and described the measure as an effort to secure a city-owned or leased location where outreach, shelter navigation and supportive services could be concentrated. Supervisor Matt Haney, whose district borders the site, spoke in support and said neighbors had engaged with the proposal.

Public comment included multiple statements from neighborhood residents and community groups in favor of the navigation center, including representatives of the Lower Polk Community Benefit District, community volunteers who provide direct outreach and nonprofit partners that operate workforce and reconnection services for people experiencing homelessness.

What the resolution asks The resolution urges the City's Department of Real Estate to pursue options and report back on a financially feasible path to acquire or lease the site for use as a navigation center and/or workforce and service hub. The resolution does not itself authorize purchase or lease; it requests city departments to explore feasibility and returns the matter for further administrative and legislative steps.
