Supervisors back smaller Clipper Cove marina plan after two-year negotiations and stakeholder agreement

SAN FRANCISCO — The Board of Supervisors on June 5 adopted a resolution responding to a proposed private marina expansion in Clipper Cove at Treasure Island, moving the city toward a smaller marina footprint and preserving space for community uses including the Treasure Island Sailing Center.
Supervisor Kim introduced the resolution and said developer and stakeholder groups, after more than two years of talks, had reached an agreement on changes to the proposal. "The developer estimates the project will go down from 400 to 225 slips," Supervisor Kim said, describing a reduced footprint and a new to-scale drawing included in the board packet.
Kim said the smaller design would preserve interim and community uses in the cove that have "come to define the cove," including the sailing center used by San Francisco Unified School District fourth-grade STEM classes and high-school racing teams. She thanked a list of stakeholders who took part in the negotiations, including Sierra Club, Friends of the Sailing Center, US Sailing, Baykeeper and neighborhood and sailing organizations, as well as the developer's representative Jay Wallace and Treasure Island Development Authority director Bob Beck.
Supervisor Kim moved an amendment to the resolution; Supervisor Peskin seconded. The board took the amendment "without objection" and then adopted the resolution as amended, also by unanimous consent.
