Supervisors introduce Fair Chance updates, Costa Hawkins repeal resolution, TPS and CleanPowerSF measures

At the Oct. 31 meeting several supervisors introduced new measures for committee review.
Supervisor Cohen introduced amendments to update the city’s Fair Chance Ordinance (Ban the Box) to align local rules with a newly‑signed state law and to address discrepancies identified after the state action.
Supervisor Sandra Fewer introduced a resolution urging support for Assembly Bill 1506 to repeal the Costa Hawkins rental law; she said repeal would give cities more authority to tailor rent protections. Fewer also introduced two resolutions to prioritize nonprofit reentry services over for‑profit providers and to authorize the Community Corrections Partnership Executive Committee to use local innovation funds for pretrial services or transitional reentry housing for justice‑involved young adults. Separately, Supervisor Fewer introduced an ordinance to enable the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to procure renewable and shaped energy and to expand CleanPowerSF citywide by July 2019.
Supervisor Jane Kim introduced a resolution urging the federal government to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for all currently included nations and to create a pathway to permanent residency; supervisors Tang, Kim, Safai, Cohen and Sheehy were among co‑sponsors mentioned on the floor. The Board recorded introductions; these items will be referred to the appropriate committees for hearing and recommendation.
