District updates facilities work: athletic pavilion, new air-conditioning, ball field and auditorium improvements nearing completion

District facilities staff and the board described capital projects now completed or approaching completion across the Chappaqua schools, including athletic and building-system work.

Assistant Superintendent of Business Joshua Cobolblock and Director of Facilities Mario Martinez updated the board on recent and upcoming work. Martinez said the athletic pavilion at Greeley is completed, the sound system in the Greeley auditorium has been upgraded, and air conditioning has been added to multiple buildings and gym/cafeteria spaces, including the Greeley L Building, Greeley gym and cafeteria, Bell gym and cafeteria, and a 7 Bridges gym. Martinez added that only punch-list items remain on those projects.

Cobolblock described the next round of work as beginning after fall seasons: construction of an additional ball field at 7 Bridges planned to start in November, additional auditorium lighting work in Greeley, and roof work at Grafland that will wrap up the multi-year capital program.

Board members noted the athletic pavilion will also serve as a concession/snack facility and asked about a ribbon-cutting event planned around homecoming. Martinez confirmed bathrooms in the new pavilion are already in use. The board expressed appreciation for facilities staff and the contractor teams for completing projects in time for the fall athletic season and other school events.

Separately, the board acknowledged a donation by the youth baseball league providing clay and services to rehabilitate the Bell School baseball field; district staff said the donation will improve infield drainage and reduce puddling so teams can use the field on more days.

Board members also discussed additional small capital items and the final round of work to conclude the district's current construction program; staff said final roofing and lighting tasks at targeted buildings will conclude the listed projects.
