The Washington County Commissioners Court on Aug. 26 approved a construction contract for the county’s ATS building with Chapel Hill Construction and authorized the county judge to sign the agreement. The court also authorized Plan North LLC to execute the notice to proceed for the project.
County staff said Chapel Hill Construction was both the highest-ranked and the lowest bidder and reported that an updated insurance certificate listing Washington County as an additional insured was delivered the morning of the meeting. During discussion, the court asked about the contractor’s expected start date. A Chapel Hill Construction representative identified as Ray said work should begin once insurance and paperwork were in place; staff and the contractor estimated mobilization could occur within about two weeks.
Why it matters: The ATS building is intended to provide storage and administrative space that county officials described as needed to alleviate overcrowding in the courthouse. County staff and contractors will coordinate contract execution, insurance documentation and construction scheduling.
