Township approves $4,810 partnership for North Riverside AutumnFest kids’ activities

The Riverside Township Board approved a $4,810 partnership with the Village of North Riverside Parks and Recreation Department to support children’s activities at AutumnFest on Sept. 12.
Jack Savage, director of parks and recreation for North Riverside, told the board the event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and draws between 2,500 and 4,500 attendees. Savage described planned additions to the kids’ zone, including illuminated mini golf, face painters, temporary tattoos, skee-ball and other interactive activities. He said the village is securing corporate sponsors to offset costs and that some vendor items may be discounted.
Trustee Clark moved to grant $4,810 and Trustee Heilenbach seconded. Clerk Reyes called the roll and all voting members present voted yes; the motion carried.
Savage said the village intends to include adult programming such as a Blues Brothers concert and beer trucks while keeping the kids’ area family friendly. Board members asked about face painters and sponsorship recognition; Savage said sponsors will be included in brochures, banners and on-stage acknowledgements.
