Council directs staff to gather cost details for potential sewer extension after grade survey finds deep run at Third North

Mount Pleasant staff reported preliminary grade shots and feasibility questions on March 25 for a potential sewer-line extension to a developing area north of Third North.
Staff said grade measurements showed a roughly 4-foot drop from Third North toward Fifth North, raising the depth of the existing sewer to about 8 feet at Third North and implying the line would be very shallow at Fifth North — potentially requiring a sewer pump/lift station for new connections. That would add construction and operating complexity for the developer and future homeowners. Staff noted up to four homes could tie into the extended line.
Council members discussed potential use of city impact fees to help offset costs for the extension and asked staff to provide a cost breakdown and to return with options on how the city and property owners could share expenses, including pump/lift requirements and any necessary sewer easements.
Council did not take a binding vote to construct the line but authorized staff to continue information gathering and cost analysis so the council can consider a future funding decision.
