The city’s police representative reported a surge in traffic accidents and detailed recent enforcement and hiring activity.
Police said traffic accidents have risen about 65% this month, describing a pattern of rear-end collisions at local intersections and drivers running lights. Officers were asked to increase presence on congested corridors to mitigate collisions during peak hours. Council members and staff discussed ongoing traffic congestion issues at several intersections and coordination with UDOT on signal timing.
The police report also noted that officers served a search warrant at a residence earlier in the day where a small indoor marijuana grow was located; officers seized the controlled substances and conducted follow-up interviews and testing. Separately, the department is processing backgrounds for two officer candidates who are already POST certified; if cleared they will be hired to fill vacancies.
The police representative said officers had supported a school biking event earlier in the day and thanked staff for cooperation with community events.
