Planning commission recommends approval for home-based line-striping business

The Gunnison City Planning and Zoning Commission on March 26 recommended approval of a home-occupation application for Pro Stripe, a line-striping business to be operated by resident Joey Crane.

Crane told the commission the business will operate from his home base but that all work will be performed offsite at customer properties. He described storing equipment in an enclosed trailer parked at his residence (he said the trailer would be roughly 6-by-10 or 6-by-12 feet) and said there would be no business transactions at the home address. "All my equipment would fit in the trailer," Crane said.

Commissioners asked about waste handling and equipment cleaning. Crane said leftover paint would be allowed to dry before disposal and that he planned to consult White Sanitation about proper disposal. "Typically, there's not going to be a lot of waste in the product," he said, adding that most paint remains on equipment and is consumed in subsequent use.

Staff recommended the application could comply with city ordinances subject to conditions, and the commission moved, seconded and approved the recommendation. The recorded voice vote was in favor; commissioners directed staff to verify compliance with waste-management requirements and other city standards before operation.

Crane said his primary market will be parking-lot striping; he may expand later into sports courts or similar work. The commission did not attach additional conditions beyond ensuring ordinance compliance and appropriate handling of residual paint.
