Bluff council notes March financials, tentatively postpones town-run Easter egg hunt and highlights spring events

Town staff asked councilmembers to review the March financial report before it is finalized, saying the report is awaiting a few end-of-month items such as PTIF receipts and several utility bills. Staff reminded members the town is three quarters of the way through its fiscal year and that a final draft of the March report will be distributed when complete.

Councilmembers discussed the annual joint Easter egg hunt with Business Owners Bluff and the Bluff Fork. A councilmember said the port notified the town it did not want to participate this year. Councilmembers said Business Owners Bluff has historically helped run the event; one councilmember volunteered to ask that group whether it will participate. The council discussed logistical constraints: the community center is booked on April 18 and 19, and Easter falls on April 20. One councilmember said the town should avoid designating the event a town-run religious observance but said the town can support a community-run event. After discussing venue and scheduling uncertainties, councilmembers suggested pausing the event this year if a host and location cannot be confirmed, and asked staff to return with more information.

Councilmembers also reminded attendees that April will include burn-mitigation work and noted the Bluff River Trail grand opening is scheduled for April 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Sand Island, hosted by the Bureau of Land Management and the Grand Canyon Trust; the meeting record shows several groups and preservation partners will participate and that a short set of remarks is planned. During the meeting the town received a message from the town attorney, Chris; officials said they would not open the message aloud during the meeting and did not provide an update.
