Student council asks Cleveland Town Council to consider donation for Class of 2025 graduation event

Members of the high school student council asked the Cleveland Town Council on April 10 to consider a financial donation to support prizes, supervision and other costs for the Class of 2025 graduation party.
The student council representative said the donation would go toward prizes and efforts “to keep everybody safe, keeping them all in one situation so everyone stays out of trouble.” The representative added the students would reciprocate by offering community service on May 5.
Mayor (identified in the meeting as Mayor) and council members said they could not vote on the request at the April 10 meeting because it had not been placed on the published agenda. The council directed staff to add the request to next month’s agenda so members can consider it formally.
The council did not set a dollar amount at the meeting. The student council provided a contact letter from Laurie Huntington and was asked to provide contact information and clarify how the students would help if the council decides to approve funding.
The discussion took place during the public comment portion of the meeting; no formal commitment or appropriation was made.
Looking ahead, the council said it will review the student council’s written request and consider it when it takes up agenda items next month.
