Council backs 100% renewable option for Westchester Power; city manager authorized to sign

Kane said participation affects only the supply portion of residents’ electric bills; transmission and distribution charges remain with the utility.
Council members discussed outreach and protections for low‑income customers. Kane said residents previously enrolled who had opted out would not need to opt out again unless they had opened a new Con Edison account; the city and Sustainable Westchester will continue multilingual outreach and event‑based enrollment assistance.
A motion to select the 100% renewable product carried on a voice vote. The motion authorizes the city manager to execute the memorandum of understanding and electric service agreement on behalf of the city and to make the city’s default supply 100% renewable, subject to standard notifications that allow customers to opt out.
No dollar amounts or contract values were disclosed in the committee discussion; the action was moved to the consent agenda for final approval.
