Timnath council authorizes conversion of 22 Old Town streetlights to LED fixtures

Timnath Town Council approved a resolution March 25 authorizing replacement of 22 ornamental streetlight fixtures along Main Street (railroad to Fifth Street) with LED fixtures and authorized the town to proceed under its existing contractor arrangement with Mack Electric.
Public Works staff presented the project and noted the fixtures each consume approximately 100 watts today; the proposed LED fixtures would operate at about 30 watts per fixture. Replacing the 22 remaining non-LED fixtures would reduce municipal streetlighting demand by roughly 1,500 watts and is projected to lower both energy consumption and long-term maintenance costs. The town’s existing contractor, Mack Electric, which maintains and repairs the town’s streetlights under an independent contractor agreement, provided the cost estimate used in the presentation. The project scope was budgeted in the 2025 capital program.
Council members confirmed the light-color specification; staff said the fixtures for the 22 posts will be specified at either 2,700 K or 3,000 K (warm white) to meet dark-sky and community-preference considerations. The contract price presented to council for the full replacement scope was $44,410. Council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution authorizing the project.
Public-works staff cited the long-term savings and reduced maintenance typically achieved by LED conversions and said the project continues an ongoing multi-year program to modernize downtown lighting.
