City manager: pool replacement project moves toward bid with alternates and solar plan

City staff reported that the Title 24 review for Ridgecrest’s pool replacement project has been completed and that bid documents are being prepared with alternate scopes to manage costs if bids exceed available funding.
During the council report, City Manager Tran said staff are including alternates in the bid package for the community center connection, site development between the senior center and pool, lighting at the pool entry and a family bathroom so that the city can reduce scope if the base bids come in over budget. “We are putting some alternate bids in the project documents. Just in case we're over budget, we need to have a way of reducing our costs,” Tran said.
Tran said the city also is working on a solar plan to offset pool energy costs. He told council the goal is to release a single bid package with alternates rather than repeat solicitations and that staff will return to council on any scope reductions required to meet funding constraints.
No contract award or final budget decision was made at the meeting; staff said they will notify council when the solicitation is publicly posted.
