Councilwoman Bowens, reporting for Parks and Recreation, said the department is preparing for the season and approved a concession agreement with Littles for pool snack and water-ice service.
Bowens said contractor work on the Whites Road pool was on schedule for a Memorial Day opening; the contractor awaited replacement valves before replastering and filling the pool. She said some diving-board and slide installations might occur during non-public hours to avoid service interruptions.
The committee authorized preparation and advertisement of bid specifications for the West Fifth Street Park playground project and said the Weitz Road Park restroom facility project will begin in early May and complete by early June.
Bowens reported that the borough had 698 pool memberships at the time of the work session. She also said the department will go out to bid for baby and intermediate pools later in the month and that parks maintenance patched and tiled pools in preparation for the season.
No full-council votes were recorded at the work session; the concession agreement and bid preparations were committee-level actions set to proceed through normal contracting and bid advertisement processes.
