The Sierra Vista Unified School District recognized school-level teachers of the year, longtime employees and 22 retirees at an employee recognition event held in conjunction with the governing board meeting.
District Superintendent Dr. Eric Holmes led the summary of current events, naming school teachers of the year including Paloma Lepley (Bella Vista), Shaniqua Mathias (Carmichael), Natalie Wise (Huachuca Mountain), Haley Lewis (PDS), Isabel Dahl (Town and Country), Danielle Frazier (Village Meadows), Danielle Cruz (JCMS), and Abby Martinez (Buena). Dr. Holmes identified Danielle Frazier of Village Meadows as the districtwide teacher of the year.
The board and district staff also recognized milestone anniversaries of service — including employees with 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years — and honored 22 retirees whose combined service totals 392 years. The district highlighted a number of individual retirees and longevity honorees by name and role during the presentation, and thanked the Education Foundation of Sierra Vista, Southwest Gas and school culinary teams for event support.
Bonnie Gomez, who presented the awards on behalf of the district, read biographical details for several retirees, including Ada Cespedes (25 years, Spanish teacher at Buena High School, joined 08/14/2000), Laura Brown (special education teacher, joined 02/2016), Velma Raspirito (Spanish teacher, joined 08/02/2012), Linda Robbins (registrar), Helen Starr (paraprofessional), Carol Stearman (26 years), Yvonne Vick (30 years, kindergarten teacher, joined 08/15/1995), and Lisa Wright (33 years, human resources manager since 2022). The presentation also noted Dr. Eric Holmes among those recognized that evening and identified him as retiring after five years as superintendent; the presentation listed his start date as 07/01/2020.
The board and district leadership closed the segment by thanking all honorees and inviting attendees to a reception funded in part by the Education Foundation.
The recognition segment was informational; no board action or vote was recorded related to the awards.
