Board unanimously confirms Carmen Chu as City Administrator; supervisors praise fiscal and managerial record

Supervisors across the board praised Chu’s record. Supervisor Peskin said she ‘‘professionalized’’ the Assessor‑Recorder’s Office and recommended her appointment. Supervisor Mar and others thanked Chu for her work leading multidepartment economic‑recovery efforts. Supervisor Chan noted Chu’s representation for Chinese American and Asian American communities in city government.
Chu addressed the board before the confirmation vote: "I will work very hard every single day to make sure that I fulfill all of the expectations that you have set before me," she said.
Several supervisors described concrete accomplishments in Chu’s public record. Supervisor Stephanie (referred to in the record as “Supervisor Stephanie”) highlighted Chu’s work clearing a backlog in the Assessor‑Recorder’s Office, noting the office’s revenue contribution to city services. Supervisors also cited Chu’s outreach to immigrant and low‑income families and her role on the city’s economic recovery task force.
The motion to confirm the mayoral appointment was made, seconded and approved by roll call; the clerk recorded 11 ayes and no dissenting votes. President Walton and other supervisors congratulated Chu after the vote.
Chu will take office as City Administrator on Feb. 1, 2021 and the board set a committee hearing schedule to continue oversight of the office’s transition.
