In brief remarks after the roll call, Supervisor Catherine Stephanie said she would “hit the ground running,” citing nine years as a legislative aide for District 2 and two years serving in a department head role at City Hall as county clerk. She said public safety and homelessness will be priorities for her office. “We must also provide more resources for our public safety personnel, our DA’s office, and our courts,” Stephanie said.
Stephanie described personal reasons for public service and told the chamber she would bring experience from both appointed and administrative roles. She recounted family connections to public service and said homelessness and rising property crime, including vehicle break-ins, are urgent problems in her district and citywide.
The board’s minutes and roll call at the start of the meeting noted the mayor’s correspondence appointing Stephanie under charter section cited by the clerk. President Breed and other supervisors welcomed Stephanie to the board before the meeting moved on to the consent calendar and other agenda items.
Stephanie said she looks forward to working with colleagues on “the issues that our constituents care most about,” and thanked Mayor Farrell and family members who were present at the meeting.
