Supervisor John Avalos moved to continue the item to Nov. 5, 2013 to allow additional time for board members to meet with SFMTA and community stakeholders; Supervisor Cohen seconded and the continuance was agreed without objection.
Supervisor Avalos said board members and neighborhoods needed more time to review technical questions and rollout strategy. Supervisor Cohen, who said she has been a vocal critic of the plan for two years, welcomed the continuance and said the proposed number of meters and the rollout strategy require additional neighborhood engagement.
The procurement as presented would authorize SFMTA to enter into an agreement with IPS Group to supply single‑space meters and services for an amount not to exceed $54,000,000 for a term of five years commencing after board approval. The continuance postpones any final approval or vote until the Nov. 5 meeting, when staff and SFMTA representatives are expected to return with responses to supervisors’ questions and additional community engagement results.
