Supervisor London Breed offered the resolution and thanked the neighborhood organizers and planning staff who participated in the long deliberative process. “The commitment and support of the Japantown community shown not only today, but at Planning Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission last month and throughout the last 10 years has been truly inspiring,” Breed said.
Speakers from the community, cultural organizations and the Consulate General of Japan urged the board to adopt the strategy and stressed the need for city resources and ongoing implementation. Supporters described JHS as both a preservation and economic plan aimed at sustaining events, cultural programming and small businesses that anchor the neighborhood.
The board took the item by same‑house, same‑call; the clerk recorded the resolution as adopted. Sponsors and community leaders said implementation will require partnerships and department support to convert proposals into projects and funding.
