Supervisor Campos seeks hearing on Pride fiscal and governance findings; requests HIV task force review; offers memorial for Jose Sarria

Supervisor Campos on Sept. 3 introduced a hearing request to review fiscal and governance shortcomings identified in a 2010 memorandum by the Controller's Office regarding the San Francisco LGBT Pride organization and asked that the board examine what steps Pride has taken to address those findings.
Campos said the Controller's 2010 review identified a $225,000 deficit at Pride at that time and raised governance concerns, inconsistent or outdated contracting practices and examples of oral agreements with vendors rather than documented contracts. "We want to know today how well Pride has done in terms of addressing the issues that have been raised in that report," Campos said, and requested the item be scheduled for committee consideration.
He also introduced a hearing request regarding the HIV Healthcare Reform Task Force, asking that the Neighborhood Services and Safety Committee review the task force's recommendations to ensure continuity of care for people living with HIV and AIDS as the Affordable Care Act expanded coverage. Campos framed the request as an opportunity to assess how the local HIV-positive population will transition into broader systems of care.
In addition, Campos asked the board to adjourn the meeting in memory of Jose Julio Sarria; President Chiu and other supervisors also offered extended remarks honoring Sarria's longtime work in the LGBT community. Campos provided biographical details about Sarria nd asked that the board honor him at the meeting.
