Central Market Community Benefit District renewed and expanded after ballots show strong support

The Board considered the renewal and proposed expansion of the Central Market Community Benefit District (CBD) and, after a public hearing and Department of Elections certification, adopted the renewal/expansion. The expanded district would cover roughly 806 parcels on approximately 42 blocks under a 15‑year term with an annual budget presented in the management district plan.
Steering-committee members, the district’s executive director and business and arts representatives described services the CBD provides and proposed to expand: increased community ambassador staffing, expanded clean-streets teams, a focused economic development program, and funding for a 10B officer pilot to support pedestrian safety. Supporters said the CBD’s daily outreach, graffiti removal, street cleaning, social-service referrals and event programming have helped stabilize the neighborhood and support merchant investment.
Following extensive public comment and a Department of Elections tabulation showing 67.15% of returned weighted ballots in favor, the Board found no majority protest and adopted the renewal and expansion resolution by unanimous roll call vote. Staff will coordinate the extended management plan and begin implementation steps for expanded ambassador, cleaning and safety programs.
