Supervisors continue AT&T network "Light Speed" environmental review items to July 19

The Board of Supervisors unanimously continued three items (agenda items 31–33) related to the AT&T network “light speed” upgrade project and the planning department’s environmental-review determinations until the July 19 board meeting.

Supervisor Wiener (Weiner) moved to continue the items after noting that a hearing on the Better Streets plan and the City’s surface-mounted utility order — which bears on sidewalk placements and related installations — is scheduled for July 11 and should occur before final action on the AT&T items. The motion to continue was seconded by Supervisor Campos and carried without objection.

Board staff described the three items as: (1) a motion affirming the planning department’s determination that the AT&T project is exempt from environmental review; (2) a motion reversing that determination; and (3) a motion directing preparation of findings. The continuance defers final action until after the scheduled Land Use Committee/Better Streets discussions that may clarify surface-mounted utility policy and coordination with sidewalk standards.

The July 11 hearing is intended to allow further coordination between departments and community input before the board takes a final position, supervisors said.
