The Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution authorizing the director of Redevelopment to sell a parcel adjacent to the Alice Griffith public housing site to a developer making a federal Choice Neighborhoods grant application. Redevelopment staff said the sale would strengthen the city's application for up to $30,000,000 in federal grant funds intended to support a full rebuild of the Alice Griffith site in Bayview Hunters Point.
Supervisor David Cohen, the district supervisor, told colleagues the rebuild will provide replacement units on site and be phased so that no current residents are moved off site during construction. Redevelopment agency staff said the sale to McCormick Baron Salazar would be at appraised value and would be conditioned on the grant award; if the Choice Neighborhoods application is not successful, the purchase and sale agreement would be void.
At the same time the board tabled a related item concerning a separate parcel (Item 43) that redevelopment staff said could not include project‑based Section 8 vouchers as previously planned because HUD would not provide them for that site. A motion to table Item 43 was seconded and adopted without objection.
Members of the public who live at Alice Griffith spoke in favor of moving the rebuild forward. After public comment the board took a roll call on Item 42; the resolution passed with 10 ayes. Ending: Redevelopment staff said they would proceed to strengthen the Choice Neighborhoods application with site control for the developer and return with any further actions related to the 5800 Third Street parcel if HUD funding becomes available.
