The board authorized exercise of an option to extend the lease at 1449 Webster Street for three years for the Office of Economic and Workforce Development employment assistance programs; Supervisor remarks described the new operators at the one‑stop job center and the effort to expand reentry and job training services in the Western Addition and Fillmore area. The lease extension was adopted by roll call (11 ayes).
The board also passed on first reading an ordinance authored by Supervisor Cohen amending the Public Works Code to declare illegal dumping on public property a nuisance and provide a mechanism for abatement and enforcement. Supervisor Cohen said the amendments clarify which municipal codes and agencies can be used in enforcement and litigation; the ordinance passed its first reading as amended. A separate ordinance (sponsored by Supervisor Mercarimi, cosponsored by Supervisor Wiener) amending public works and police codes to increase enforcement and penalties for posting signs on city property also passed its first reading without objection.
Other actions: the board approved committee reports recommending appointments: Supervisor David Campos was nominated to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (motion approved by roll call), and the reappointment of Jerry Lee to the Municipal Transportation Agency Board was confirmed. The board also waived temporary street‑space occupancy fees for two Small Business Week sidewalk sale dates by ordinance (first reading).
All first‑reading ordinances were adopted on first reading, pending the second‑reading process required by charter. Where applicable, supervisors noted implementation steps and thanked staff for work on enforcement language and community priorities.
