San Francisco Elections staff reported returned weighted ballots: 82.56 percent in favor and 17.44 percent opposed. Under the ballot-weighting procedure that applies to property-based improvement district renewals, ballots are weighed by the proposed assessment level tied to each parcel. Because the in-favor ballots did not fall below the majority-protest threshold, the board moved to adopt the resolution establishing the district.
Supervisor Philip Lesser and property owners told the board the renewed BID will support clean-and-safe services, streetscape upkeep and small-business support on the 2500 block of Mission Street. Members of the public and nearby property owners spoke in favor during the public hearing.
The board adopted the resolution after the clerk announced the ballot tabulation results and the roll-call vote recorded the items passage.
Why it matters: Business improvement districts aggregate property assessments to fund supplemental services beyond the citys baseline — in this case neighborhood-cleaning, safety and marketing for a key commercial corridor. The renewal moves forward programs paid by assessed property owners.
