Supervisors seek quarterly WESIP updates, ask for charter budget drafting and introduce immigration and bingo measures

During roll call and the introductions portion of the April 7 Board of Supervisors meeting, several supervisors announced new requests and drafting actions the board will consider in coming weeks.

Supervisor David Campos said he would work with Supervisor John Avalos to bring a hearing request for regular quarterly updates from the Public Utilities Commission on the Water System Improvement Program (WESIP). "In particular, we're interested in making sure that we have thorough information about projects completed to date, corresponding costs for those completed projects, as well as corresponding costs for upcoming projects," Campos said. He noted the WESIP program "is more than $4,000,000,000 large."

President David Chiu said he submitted a drafting request on behalf of a majority of the board and the mayor proposing a charter amendment on budget reforms for the next election. The drafting request seeks to create a two‑year budget process with a mid‑cycle correction, establish a five‑year financial plan to inform the two‑year budget, and adopt formal financial policies to smooth the city's revenue cycles.
