Speakers representing San Francisco State University and City College told the Board the proposed cuts would result in tens of millions of dollars in shortfalls and risk reducing faculty, classes and student access. A representative for San Francisco State said the system educates more than 30,000 students annually and warned of the economic consequences of cuts; the California Faculty Association chapter president and student organizers urged the Board's public support as an example for other local governments.
The resolution was adopted without roll-call debate as part of a block of calendar items; the clerk recorded the measure as adopted by same-house, same-call.
