Board approves Saturday vehicle restrictions on Golden Gate Park’s JFK Drive for summer season

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance adding section 6.13 to the San Francisco Police Code to prohibit motor vehicle traffic on Saturdays on John F. Kennedy Drive in Golden Gate Park for the summer season, from May 26, 2007 until Sept. 29, 2007. The ordinance applies to John F. Kennedy Drive between Transverse Drive on the western side of the park and Stow Lake Drive between Stow Lake East and John F. Kennedy Drive.
Supervisor McGoldrick described the ordinance as the result of a “wonderful compromise,” thanking stakeholders and the mayor’s office for negotiation and urging colleagues to approve the settlement without returning the question to the ballot. “It is the settlement of something that goes back not years, but decades,” McGoldrick said, praising participating parties for reaching agreement.
The roll call on item 14 recorded nine ayes and two noes; the clerk announced: “There are 9 ayes and 2 noes. The ordinance is finally passed.” The measure will be enforced for the specified Saturdays during the stated period.
