Kenai Peninsula Borough to consider exception allowing late senior grant applications

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly on Tuesday heard an introduction of Ordinance 2025-06, which would provide an exception to borough code to accept late-filed fiscal-year 2026 senior citizen grant applications.
Mayor Michicky brought the ordinance forward and turned the presentation to Brandy Harbaugh, who said the late filings were caused by “medical issues as well as others” and asked the assembly to accept the applications so the borough can introduce a budget that includes funding for those senior services.
Harbaugh told the assembly the number of late applications was small and that the ordinance is a procedural step to allow the proposed awards to appear in the FY26 budget. No vote or formal action on the ordinance was recorded during the committee discussion.
The item will return to the assembly for consideration at a future public hearing and possible vote; the ordinance text in the packet was identified as Ordinance 2025-06 and the sponsor listed as the mayor.
