DeKalb committee approves $60,000 increase to fire-rescue dashcam contract

The DeKalb County IRPS (Intergovernmental Relations, Public Safety & Employee Relations) Committee voted to approve a change order to contract number 2000105, adding up to $60,000 to equip additional fire-rescue vehicles with dash-cam equipment and related accessories.

Committee Chair Commissioner Ladina Bolton said the item was a county purchase through a Cobb County OMNIA cooperative contract. A county representative described the request as an increase to an existing award to Carahsoft Technology Corporation for dash-cam equipment, licensing and installation.

A representative identified in committee as the Fire Rescue chief said the additional funds will cover cameras for ambulances, supervisor vehicles and fleet units not covered during the initial installation. “These are the cameras that are outward facing, in inward facing into the cab, and we added those to add extra level of safety,” the chief said.

Committee members asked about contract length; the chief said the contract runs through 2028. There were no objections during committee discussion and the motion to approve carried by voice vote.

The change order increases the contract ceiling to allow additional vehicles to be outfitted as needed; the county said the funds are intended to expand coverage and enhance safety but did not propose additional program changes beyond installation and licensing.

The committee approved the change order and moved the item forward for implementation under the existing contract terms. No amendments to the contract period were proposed during the discussion.

Looking ahead, county staff will coordinate installations with Fire Rescue operations and the vendor under the OMNIA cooperative purchasing terms.
