DeKalb staff to present public safety task force proposal; board to appoint members

DeKalb County administration walked on a proposal on April 15 to establish a Public Safety Task Force as part of the county’s public safety recruitment and retention strategy. County staff said the board and the CEO would have appointment authority for the task force.
“...this is something that the CEO presented the concept and the board embraced ... the establishment of a public safety task force whereby each commissioner will be able to make appointments, as will the CEO,” Mister Williams said while introducing the item. He asked whether the board wanted the matter to go to the Employee Relations & Public Safety committee; the chair directed the item to ERPS.
The task force was presented as a walk-on and staff said details would be provided in a forthcoming handout. No formal appointments or a membership list were presented at the Committee of the Whole meeting; staff routed the proposal to ERPS for discussion.
Ending: Commissioners expect a fuller packet describing task force charge, membership rules and next steps when the item returns to committee.
