Transportation, Energy and Utilities Committee approves six bills, defers two; solid waste fee briefing set

The Jacksonville Transportation, Energy and Utilities Committee on April 1, 2025 approved six bills by unanimous 6-0 votes, deferred two items (one under Section 21.13 of the city charter and one pending public hearings) and scheduled a Solid Waste Division briefing for its April 15 meeting, the committee chair said.

The meeting produced no public speaker cards and included little debate, the chair said. The committee moved and recorded votes on multiple bills in succession; each approved item passed by a 6-0 tally. Two items were deferred: one because of Section 21.13 of the city charter and another because it required additional public hearings, the chair said.

Actions at a glance: bills 20250136 and 20250137 were approved 6-0. The committee opened and closed the public hearing for bill 20250184 and approved it 6-0. Bill 20250186 passed 6-0. Committee members and staff noted that the committee’s next meeting, scheduled for April 15, will include a presentation by the Solid Waste Division about additional funds and a review of other fee proposals. The chair said the presentation will follow a recently passed increase in the city’s trash fee intended to restore the fund to a self-balancing enterprise account; the Solid Waste Division will outline other fees “just for discussion” and whether the committee wants to pursue changes.

With no further business, the chair adjourned the meeting.
