The Madera County Civil Service Commission on April 15 approved revisions to three county job classification specifications — Legal Assistant I, Probation Technician and Public Safety Records Specialist — each by a 4-0 roll-call vote with Commissioner Perez absent.
Sabrina Mendez, Department of Human Resources, told the commission the changes are part of an effort “to ensure that Madera County job descriptions reflect current industry standards and that they align more closely with the current duties performed within the district attorney's office.” She described the revisions as updates to better match current duties and physical demands.
The commission considered three separate items under agenda item 4. For the Legal Assistant I revision, Mendez said the unit designation is unrepresented and that no bargaining-unit notice was required. The commission moved and approved the revision on a roll call vote: Commissioners Iverson, Atwood, Rios and Frey voted yes; Commissioner Perez was absent.
For the Probation Technician specification, Mendez said “language referencing post requirements were removed since this is not a requirement for the position” and that the physical demands were modified “to accurately reflect the requirements based on an office environment.” She also reported the clerical technical unit had been provided the recommended amendment and “is in agreement with the changes.” The commission approved that revision 4-0 with Perez absent.
On the Public Safety Records Specialist revision, Mendez gave similar justification, saying post references were removed and physical-demand language was updated to reflect an office environment; the clerical technical unit likewise agreed. The commission approved that revision 4-0 with Perez absent.
No statutes, ordinances or bargaining agreements were cited on the record. The actions recorded were approvals of revised classification specifications; no new pay scales or bargaining outcomes were announced at the meeting.
In staff reports, Human Resources reminded commissioners of a scheduled hearing next week expected to run from 5:30 p.m. until about 9 p.m., but that it “may end sooner.” The commission adjourned following the staff update.
