Tigard High envoy outlines end-of-year activities, graduation and student initiatives

Tigard High School envoy Maddie Vogel briefed the City Council on April 22 about the school’s end-of-year activities, class events and student programs as the school entered its fourth quarter.

Vogel, a graduating senior and the school’s envoy, said seniors’ last day is June 4, graduation is set for June 6, and the all-night graduation party will follow at a secret location. She described student-led leadership initiatives, a fight-song banner to be installed in the gym, and a leadership corner to be added in athletic media guides.

Vogel also reviewed grade-specific activities: juniors have prom on May 3, sophomores are planning a multicultural night and staffing prom coat check, and freshmen are participating in outreach to middle schools for the first time. Spring sports were underway, with baseball, softball, tennis, golf, boys volleyball and track season highlights.

Councilors thanked Vogel and asked a few follow-up questions about student surveys to measure postgraduation readiness; Vogel said seniors completed a post-graduation form that asked about plans and whether students felt prepared for their chosen next steps.
