Kaneland board salutes food service and recognizes student art winners; work to hang in district office

The Kaneland CUSD 302 Board of Education used its “board-superintendent salutes” segment to recognize the district’s food-service team for National School Lunch Week and to present annual board art awards featuring student work from elementary, middle and high schools.
Doctor Bogan introduced a salute for food service and recognized Director Gigi Statler and her staff “for their hard work, their commitment, and the vital role that they play in our school community,” saying the team ensures students have access to healthy, nutritious meals and accommodates diverse dietary needs.
The board then reviewed student art selected by teachers across the district. Presenters included art teachers from John Stewart, McDowell, Shields, Blackberry Creek, Harder Middle School, and Canton High School. Teachers described the techniques and learning goals behind individual pieces: primary-to-intermediate color wheel work, one-point perspective bedroom drawings, materials exploration including metal tooling and mixed media, Monet-style landscapes, synesthesia-inspired portrait/abstract juxtapositions, collaborative works by twins exploring unity and reflection, experimental photography and AP‑level portfolios.
Student artists named during the presentation included Lainie and Leonard (John Stewart), Kaylee Intihar and Ayla Joseph (McDowell), Amelia Lewis and Izzy Ramirez (Shields), Landon and Cammie (Blackberry Creek), Giovanna and Isabella (Harder Middle School), Maisie (Harder), and Kayla and Serenity (Canton High School). The board noted that the selected art will hang in the district office for three years, rotating from the main hallway to the superintendent’s office and then the conference room.
Teachers and administrators invited family members and attendees to take photographs and to join a group photo in the cafeteria after the meeting. The board moved from the salutes into the new-business portion of the agenda.
